Bernard “Bernie” Mulqueen, Beloved Limerick Resident, Passes Away Peacefully at St Catherine’s Nursing Home
LIMERICK, IRELAND — July 16, 2025 — The Limerick community is mourning the loss of Bernard “Bernie” Mulqueen, a cherished lifelong resident of Ballyine, Carrigkerry, and formerly of Curraghchase Garden Centre in Kilcornan. Bernie passed away peacefully on July 15, surrounded by his loving family and under the caring watch of the staff at St. Catherine’s Nursing Home in Newcastle West.
Bernie’s passing has deeply affected his family and the wider community, who remember him as a kind, warm-hearted man devoted to his family and neighbors.
A Life Marked by Dedication and Love
Bernie was predeceased by his parents, Patrick and Nora, and his brother Seamus. He is survived by his beloved wife, Bridie (née Kelly); daughter, Noreen; and sons, Denis, Patrick, Bernard, Gerard, and Robert. His family also includes daughters-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sister Helen, and many extended family members and friends.
Throughout his life, Bernie was known for his gentle nature and unwavering commitment to those he loved. Formerly associated with the Curraghchase Garden Centre, Bernie’s work ethic and kindness left a lasting impression on colleagues and customers alike.
Community Mourns a Gentle Soul
Bernie’s kindness extended far beyond his immediate family. Neighbors and friends recall a man who was always willing to lend a helping hand or offer a kind word. His quiet strength and generosity were a comfort to many in the community.
“Bernie was the heart of our neighborhood,” shared a longtime neighbor. “His presence brought peace and kindness to everyone around him.”
Funeral and Final Farewell
Bernie’s body will repose at O’Grady’s Funeral Home in Ballingarry on Thursday, July 17, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The funeral procession will then move to The Church of the Immaculate Conception in Ballingarry, with arrival at 7:30 p.m. A Requiem Mass is scheduled for Friday, July 18, at 11 a.m., followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.
Family, friends, and members of the community are invited to pay their respects and celebrate Bernie’s life, honoring a man whose legacy of love and kindness will be remembered for years to come.
