San Antonio, TX – July 29, 2025

The motorcyclist who died in a fiery, three-vehicle collision on the South Side of San Antonio Sunday evening has been identified as Chandler Krueger, 25, according to the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office. Officials confirmed that Krueger succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash, which has been officially ruled an accident.

The crash occurred just after 8 p.m. on Sunday, July 27, at the intersection of Southwest Military Drive and Logwood Avenue, near Interstate 35. Authorities say Krueger was heading westbound on Southwest Military Drive when he collided with the driver’s side of a truck and also struck a nearby sedan. Tragically, both the motorcycle and the truck caught fire following the impact.

Despite the desperate efforts of multiple bystanders who rushed to assist, Chandler was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Family Revisited by Tragedy

In a deeply heartbreaking connection, KSAT confirmed that Chandler Krueger was the older brother of Haley Krueger, the 16-year-old girl who was one of the 26 people shot and killed in the Sutherland Springs church massacre on November 5, 2017 — one of the deadliest mass shootings in Texas history.

That mass shooting left an entire town grieving and forever changed the Krueger family, who lost their daughter in a place of worship. Now, less than eight years later, the same family is forced to mourn again — this time, the tragic and unexpected death of their son.

Friends close to the family say the Kruegers had shown immense strength in the years since Haley’s death, becoming part of a broader network of survivors and advocates. Chandler had been a quiet but constant presence in that healing process.

“This family has already been through more pain than most can imagine,” one family friend shared. “Chandler was trying to move forward. To see this happen is just cruel.”

Details of the Crash

According to San Antonio Police, both the truck and sedan involved in the crash were traveling through the intersection on green lights. Witnesses stated that Krueger’s motorcycle, for reasons still under investigation, passed through the intersection and struck the driver’s side of the truck before impacting the sedan. The force of the collision sparked flames that quickly engulfed the motorcycle and the truck.

Miraculously, the drivers of both the truck and the sedan survived with only minor injuries. Video footage from a bystander showed several individuals pulling over and rushing to the scene, attempting to help all parties involved, including Krueger.

While investigators continue to examine all available footage and witness statements, initial findings indicate that the accident was not caused by reckless driving or impairment.

A Community Responds with Grief and Grace

News of Chandler Krueger’s death has sent a wave of sorrow across San Antonio and beyond, particularly among those who remember the Sutherland Springs tragedy. The community that once rallied around the Kruegers is again coming together to offer support.

Local clergy and counselors have been made available to support friends and family grieving the devastating loss. A growing number of online tributes describe Chandler as a kind-hearted, adventurous young man with a deep love for his family, motorcycles, and music.

“He was trying to live life fully again,” a former classmate wrote. “After losing Haley, something in him changed — but he never lost his goodness.”

Honoring His Memory

The Krueger family has not yet announced funeral arrangements, but friends have begun organizing a candlelight vigil at the site of the crash. A local church has offered space for a public memorial in the coming days.

Chandler’s death is not just another number on a traffic fatality report — it is the tragic end to a life that had already been marked by immense loss, and it reflects the painful ripple effects of grief, healing, and now heartbreak again.
