California Man Shot Twice During Reno Mass Shooting While Attending Bachelor Party — Expected to Recover
RENO, NEVADA — A 33-year-old man from Southern California is recovering in the hospital after being shot twice during a mass shooting that unfolded early Monday morning, July 29, 2025, outside the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno. The man, who was visiting the area to attend a weekend bachelor party with friends, was one of several people injured when gunfire erupted in the casino’s parking lot.
Weekend of Celebration Turns to Chaos
According to family members, the victim — whose name has not yet been released publicly — had traveled to the Reno-Tahoe area to celebrate an upcoming wedding with a group of close friends. What began as a joyful night of festivities ended in terror when gunshots rang out shortly after 3:00 a.m. in the resort’s north parking structure.
Witnesses report a chaotic scene, with dozens of guests fleeing for safety as multiple shots were fired. Law enforcement officials say the shooting appeared to stem from an altercation that escalated between two groups. Investigators are still working to determine whether the victim was directly involved in the dispute or was an innocent bystander caught in the crossfire.
Victim in Stable Condition
The Southern California man was struck twice — once in the shoulder and once in the lower back, according to a statement from his family. Emergency responders arrived on scene quickly and transported him to Renown Regional Medical Center, where doctors performed surgery and stabilized him.
“He’s incredibly lucky,” said the victim’s sister. “The bullets missed all major organs, and the doctors expect him to make a full recovery. We’re just grateful he’s alive.”
The family has since traveled to Reno to be by his side, and they’ve expressed appreciation for the outpouring of support and swift action from first responders.
Multiple Victims, No Arrests Yet
The Reno Police Department confirmed that multiple people were injured in the shooting, although they have not provided a specific number or released the identities of the other victims. As of Thursday, no arrests have been made, but detectives are actively reviewing surveillance footage, speaking with witnesses, and urging anyone with information to come forward.
Authorities believe that the shooting may be gang-related or connected to out-of-town visitors with prior criminal records. However, they emphasized that the investigation remains open and evolving.
“We are taking this very seriously,” said Reno Police Chief Jason Soto. “This type of violence is unacceptable in our community, and we will pursue every lead to bring those responsible to justice.”
Grand Sierra Resort Responds
The Grand Sierra Resort, one of the largest resort-casinos in Northern Nevada, issued a statement expressing sorrow for those affected by the incident and confirming its full cooperation with law enforcement.
“The safety and well-being of our guests is our top priority,” the statement read. “We are cooperating fully with Reno Police as they investigate this deeply disturbing incident.”
The resort has increased security presence around the premises and is reviewing its internal policies on late-night gatherings in public areas.
Community on Edge
The shooting has reignited concerns about safety in the Reno-Tahoe entertainment district, especially as the region continues to attract large numbers of visitors for concerts, sporting events, and summer tourism.
“We welcome guests from all over, but this type of violence threatens to undo all the work we’ve done to make Reno feel safe,” said local councilmember Tina Morales.
Some community members are calling for enhanced security protocols and late-night patrols in the area surrounding the Grand Sierra Resort and other high-traffic entertainment venues.
Ongoing Investigation
Anyone who was in the area at the time of the shooting or who may have cell phone footage is encouraged to contact the Reno Police Department or submit anonymous tips through Secret Witness of Northern Nevada.
The victim’s family has not started a fundraiser at this time but asks for prayers and privacy as he recovers.
