MACON, GA — August 5, 2025
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a devastating single-vehicle accident that claimed the lives of two local teenagers in the early morning hours of Friday, August 1. Authorities confirmed that 18-year-old Alexander Strebeck, who was driving, and his 17-year-old passenger, Landon Lawless, both died at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash.
The tragedy has left the community of Macon in mourning, as friends, classmates, and family members struggle to process the sudden and heartbreaking loss of two young lives.
Crash Details and Emergency Response
According to a statement from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred just after 1:30 a.m. on a quiet stretch of road in southeast Macon. Preliminary investigations suggest that Strebeck was driving at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road and crash violently into a wooded area.
First responders arrived quickly on the scene after a passerby called 911 to report what appeared to be a severe crash. Despite the rapid response from EMS, fire crews, and Sheriff’s deputies, both teens had suffered catastrophic injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene.
“This is a tragic event for the families involved and for our entire community,” said Bibb County Sheriff David Davis. “Our hearts go out to those mourning Alexander and Landon. We are doing everything we can to investigate the cause of this heartbreaking incident.”
Investigation Underway
Investigators are working to determine the exact cause of the crash. Early reports indicate that speed may have been a contributing factor, though toxicology results and a full crash reconstruction are still pending.
The Sheriff’s Office has not indicated whether any mechanical failure or environmental factors may have played a role. Officials confirmed that both teenagers were wearing seatbelts, and no other vehicles were involved in the incident.
Remembering Alexander and Landon
Both young men were well-known in the Macon area. Alexander Strebeck, 18, had recently graduated and was preparing to begin the next chapter of his life, possibly pursuing work or higher education. Described by friends as charismatic, adventurous, and kind, Alexander had a passion for cars and enjoyed spending time with his close circle of friends.
Landon Lawless, 17, was still in high school and known for his easy-going nature, infectious laugh, and dedication to his family and friends. He was a student-athlete, participating in multiple sports, and was often described as someone who lifted others up with his words and presence.
“They were two amazing young men with so much life ahead of them,” said a classmate. “This just doesn’t feel real. It’s a nightmare.”
Grief counselors have been made available at local schools, and friends and family members have begun organizing memorial services and candlelight vigils in their honor.
