Mass Shooting at Allenmore Hospital ER Leaves Multiple Victims as Gunman Remains at Large

TACOMA, WA — August 6, 2025 — A terrifying and chaotic scene unfolded Wednesday evening at Allenmore Hospital in Tacoma, where multiple people were shot outside the hospital’s emergency room. The suspect remains at large, and authorities are urging residents to remain indoors as a manhunt intensifies.

According to initial reports from Tacoma Police, the shooting occurred around 7:05 PM, when emergency dispatchers received several 911 calls about active gunfire near the ER entrance of the hospital, located on South Union Avenue. The area, typically a place of healing and safety, was plunged into panic as gunfire erupted in front of terrified patients, staff, and visitors.

Victims and Chaos at the Scene

At least four individuals were shot, according to police sources. Two of the victims are in critical condition, while two others are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Hospital security and off-duty personnel rushed to assist the wounded as emergency response teams flooded the scene.

Witnesses described scenes of horror and confusion as people scrambled for cover.

“It was pure chaos. I heard the shots and saw people running and screaming,” said a witness who had just pulled into the hospital parking lot. “People were hiding behind cars, and nurses were trying to pull patients inside.”

Allenmore Hospital initiated a full code lockdown, securing all entrances and suspending intake at the emergency department. Patients already inside the ER were moved to secure areas, and staff were instructed to shelter in place.

Suspect on the Run

As of late Wednesday night, the suspect remains at large, and details about their identity or possible motive are still unknown. Tacoma Police are working with federal and state agencies in what they are treating as an active shooter and public safety threat.

The suspect was last seen fleeing the scene on foot heading westbound, according to surveillance footage being reviewed by law enforcement. Police have not yet released a suspect description to the public, but tactical teams and K-9 units have been deployed to canvass the surrounding neighborhoods and wooded areas.

Residents have been advised to avoid the hospital area entirely and to remain indoors until further notice.

Hospital and City Officials Respond

In a statement released by the MultiCare Health System, which operates Allenmore Hospital, officials expressed deep sorrow for the victims and gratitude to their staff for their heroic response under extreme circumstances.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with all those impacted by tonight’s tragedy. We commend our medical team and security staff for their quick actions to protect lives in a moment of great fear and uncertainty,” the statement read.

Tacoma Mayor Victoria Woodards also issued a statement condemning the violence:

“What happened tonight at Allenmore Hospital is unthinkable. Our city will not tolerate this kind of violence, especially in a place meant for healing. We will find the individual responsible and bring them to justice.”

Ongoing Investigation

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the FBI have joined the investigation. Authorities are combing through surveillance footage, interviewing witnesses, and collecting ballistic evidence from the scene.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Tacoma Police Department at their non-emergency number or submit tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers.

Community in Shock

This tragic shooting marks one of the most disturbing acts of violence in recent memory for the city of Tacoma. The fact that it occurred at a hospital — a place of sanctuary — has shaken the community to its core.

Local officials are expected to hold a press briefing early Thursday morning to provide updates on the investigation and issue public safety guidance.
