Susquehanna County, PA – A violent confrontation unfolded in rural Pennsylvania, leaving a community shaken after gunfire erupted, injuring two state troopers and killing at least two individuals, including the gunman. Eyewitnesses and officials confirm that the scene was chaotic and intense, as Pennsylvania State Police officers came under direct fire during what authorities now describe as a “targeted and calculated ambush.”
The incident occurred in Susquehanna County, where Troopers Joseph Perechinsky and William Jenkins were both seriously wounded by gunfire. The suspected shooter, identified as Carmine Faino, was fatally shot by law enforcement during the response. Additionally, a female civilian was also killed, according to individuals close to the victims.
One eyewitness, Dave E. Carr Jr., shared a harrowing account of the violence. According to Carr, a bullet missed his head by mere inches as he stood near the scene and watched the troopers come under heavy fire. “I felt the wind of the shot fly past me. It could have ended very differently,” he recounted, visibly shaken. Carr also confirmed that multiple patrol vehicles were struck by bullets, describing the gunfire as relentless.
The Pennsylvania State Police have not yet released the identity of the female victim. However, Nikki Creps, who personally knew one of the injured troopers, confirmed to reporters that a woman died at the scene during the chaos.
“This is beyond heartbreaking,” said Creps. “These officers were out there doing their jobs — protecting the community — and now families are facing life-altering injuries and devastating loss.”
Ongoing Investigation and Community Response
Authorities have yet to release full details on what led up to the shooting, but early reports suggest that Faino may have intentionally targeted the officers, though a motive has not been publicly confirmed. Forensic teams and detectives remained on scene for hours following the incident, examining spent shell casings, damaged patrol cars, and surrounding properties for additional evidence.
Local residents have expressed deep concern about the outbreak of violence in what is typically a quiet and rural part of Pennsylvania. A makeshift memorial has already begun to take shape at the state police barracks, where flowers and notes of support have been left for the wounded troopers.
Governor and law enforcement officials have since issued statements offering support to the affected families and vowing a full investigation. “We will not rest until every detail of this senseless act is understood. Our thoughts are with the officers, their families, and the community,” one official said during a brief press conference.
Status of Injured Troopers
As of the latest updates, Trooper Perechinsky and Trooper Jenkins remain hospitalized in serious condition. Medical staff are reportedly optimistic about their recovery, but both face a long road ahead.
Supporters have already begun circulating online fundraisers and community drives to support the families of the injured and deceased. Local leaders are urging residents to remain vigilant, cooperate with investigators, and stand united during this time of collective grief.
