AUGUSTA, GEORGIA – A wave of sorrow has swept through the Augusta community following the death of Nicholas “Nick” Jackson, a revered percussion director, snare drummer, and mentor who passed away in 2025 at the age of 33. Known for his deep musical talent, magnetic leadership, and commitment to nurturing young musicians, Jackson’s passing leaves behind a powerful legacy and a heartbroken community.

Born in 1992, Nick Jackson was a proud Augusta native who poured his heart into every drumbeat and every lesson. From a young age, it was evident that he had a gift for rhythm, and that gift would eventually evolve into a lifelong mission to lead, teach, and inspire through music.

A graduate of Bethune–Cookman University, Jackson developed not only as a performer but also as a leader. His time at the university shaped his musical foundation and prepared him to return home and give back. He became widely known and admired as a former D-Line snare drummer and later as a respected percussion director, dedicating himself to teaching and empowering young drummers in the community.

“We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of our dear friend and former snare drummer, Nick Jackson,” shared one tribute from the D-Line music family. “With heavy hearts and great sorrow, we remember him not just for his extraordinary skill, but for his mentorship, kindness, and passion.”

His impact stretched far beyond the stage or football field. As a percussion instructor, Nick wasn’t just teaching music—he was instilling confidence, discipline, and pride. His students looked up to him not only as a teacher but also as a role model, someone who believed in them, challenged them, and celebrated their successes.

Family members, former students, colleagues, and friends have expressed deep grief, along with gratitude for the life and legacy of a man who gave so much of himself to others.

“Please keep our family in your prayers as we go through this trying time with the loss of Nick Jackson. We’ve lost a warrior, and he fought as long as he could. We may think we needed him, but God needed him more,” shared one close family member. “Thank you for all your condolences—we’ll update everyone as soon as we can.”

While details surrounding the circumstances of his death have not been made public, the community is already organizing memorial events to celebrate his life and honor his contributions.
