LEWISVILLE, TX — July 24, 2025 — The Lewisville Police Department (LPD) is investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred early Thursday morning following a high-speed pursuit that spanned multiple jurisdictions and ended in the 2200 block of the southbound I-35E service road.

According to a statement from LPD, the incident began shortly after midnight when an LPD officer initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle. The female driver was believed to have an active felony warrant issued by another agency.

Pursuit Escalates After Traffic Stop Attempt

The officer was in the process of confirming the warrant when the suspect suddenly fled the scene at a high rate of speed, sparking a pursuit through several North Texas jurisdictions. Police say the woman was alone in the vehicle.

During the chase, the suspect collided with an LPD patrol vehicle. Fortunately, the officer involved in the collision was not injured. The pursuit came to a halt in a commercial parking lot near South I-35E in Lewisville.

Suspect Reportedly Pulled a Gun

LPD officials say the situation escalated quickly at the scene of the stop. As officers attempted to arrest the driver, she allegedly produced a handgun and refused to comply with repeated commands to drop the weapon. Officers responded by firing their weapons, striking the suspect.

Emergency medical aid was immediately rendered at the scene. Medics with the Lewisville Fire Department responded and transported the woman to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly after 1:00 a.m.

A handgun was recovered from inside the suspect’s vehicle. No officers or civilians were injured during the confrontation.

LPD & Texas Rangers Launch Investigations

As is standard protocol in officer-involved shootings, the four LPD officers involved in the incident have been placed on administrative leave pending further investigation.

The Texas Department of Public Safety’s Texas Rangers Division has been asked to conduct an independent criminal investigation into the shooting. Simultaneously, the Lewisville Police Department will carry out an internal administrative review to ensure department policies were followed.

The identity of the deceased woman will be released by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office once next of kin has been notified.

Traffic Disruptions and Public Safety

In the aftermath of the incident, LPD closed off parts of the southbound I-35E service road in the area as they processed the scene. Drivers were advised to use alternate routes for their morning commute. As of this writing, the area has been reopened to traffic.

Officials emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to the public.

“This is an active and ongoing investigation,” said LPD Chief of Police Kevin Deaver. “We are committed to transparency, and we will work with outside agencies to ensure a complete and fair review of what occurred.”
