Targeted Shooting in North Philadelphia Leaves Community Grieving the Loss of 29-Year-Old Woman
PHILADELPHIA, PA — July 19, 2025 — A devastating and calculated act of violence shattered the early morning hours in North Philadelphia on Friday, claiming the life of a 29-year-old woman just steps from a place of worship.
The victim, identified by authorities as Kisha McKenzie, was gunned down around 1:00 a.m. in the 2000 block of West Lehigh Avenue, directly in front of Deliverance Evangelistic Church. The scene quickly drew police and emergency personnel, but despite their rapid response, McKenzie was pronounced dead at the scene.
Philadelphia police reported that she had been shot multiple times, including in the head and face, suggesting an execution-style killing. Her body was discovered lying against a fence outside the church—an image that has left the local community in shock and disbelief.
“This was a targeted, cold-blooded attack.”
Police say initial evidence points to a deliberate and targeted shooting, and investigators are now working around the clock to determine who was responsible—and why.
“This was not a random act of violence,” a law enforcement official close to the investigation stated. “It was cold-blooded, calculated, and meant to send a message.”
Surveillance footage from nearby cameras is being reviewed, and detectives have begun canvassing the area for potential witnesses. As of Saturday, no arrests have been made, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
A Community Left Shaken
The proximity of the murder to Deliverance Evangelistic Church—one of the most well-known congregations in the area—has only deepened the sense of sorrow and unease in North Philadelphia.
“This should be a place of peace and sanctuary,” said a longtime church member who asked to remain anonymous. “To see someone’s life taken right in front of our doors is heartbreaking.”
Neighbors and residents lit candles Friday night in an impromptu vigil, remembering Kisha McKenzie as a vibrant young woman whose life was stolen far too soon.
“She was always smiling,” said a local shop owner who knew her. “It’s just so hard to believe she’s gone.”
Ongoing Investigation
The Philadelphia Police Department and homicide detectives continue to investigate, and officials confirmed they are exploring multiple leads. However, no motive has yet been officially released.
Authorities ask that anyone with information contact the department’s tip line. Tips can be submitted anonymously, and a reward may be offered for information leading to an arrest.
As the city reels from another act of senseless violence, many are calling for renewed focus on community safety and the urgent need for justice.
