Tragic Crash in Breckinridge County Claims Three Lives, Including Toddler on Her Parents’ Honeymoon

Breckinridge County, KY – A heartbreaking tragedy has struck a young family in Kentucky after a devastating car crash on Saturday evening claimed the lives of three people, including a 1-year-old girl, along a quiet stretch of Kentucky Route 261.

According to the Kentucky State Police (KSP), the deadly collision occurred shortly after 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 27, 2025, in Breckinridge County. Authorities say that 24-year-old Hunter Lyons was driving his vehicle with his wife, Macey Lyons, and their infant daughter, Oakleigh, when tragedy struck during what was supposed to be a joyful time in their lives — their honeymoon.

Wrong-Way Collision Ends in Tragedy

Initial reports from KSP indicate that 48-year-old Joseph Maynard, the driver of a second vehicle, crossed the center line of the two-lane highway for unknown reasons and collided head-on with the Lyons’ vehicle. The impact was catastrophic. Both Hunter Lyons and 1-year-old Oakleigh were pronounced dead at the scene.

Maynard also succumbed to his injuries and died at the site of the crash.

Macey Lyons, who was badly injured in the wreck, was airlifted to a hospital in Louisville for emergency treatment. As of Monday, she remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition, according to sources close to the family.

Honeymoon Turns to Horror

Friends and family have confirmed that the couple had recently tied the knot and were on their honeymoon when the fatal crash occurred. The Lyons family, who had been looking forward to a lifetime of memories together, has now been left shattered by unimaginable grief.

“They were just starting their lives together,” said one close family friend. “Hunter was a devoted husband and father. Oakleigh was their world.”

Community Steps In to Support Survivor

The small Kentucky community has begun to rally around Macey Lyons in her time of immense pain and loss. A benefit event has been organized for this Saturday, August 3, at Calhoun Baptist Church, located on Main Street. Organizers say that all proceeds will go toward funeral expenses for Hunter and Oakleigh, as well as medical costs for Macey’s recovery.

Donations, auction items, and community volunteers are being welcomed. Many in the community have already pledged support, with some planning additional fundraising drives in the coming weeks.

Ongoing Investigation

Kentucky State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. As of now, it remains unclear what caused Joseph Maynard to cross into oncoming traffic. No signs of impairment have been confirmed, and toxicology reports are pending.

Investigators are asking any potential witnesses who may have seen the vehicles before the collision to come forward with information that may assist in piecing together the events leading up to the crash.

A Family’s Future Forever Changed

What began as a celebratory chapter in the lives of the Lyons family ended in unimaginable sorrow. The loss of a father, a child, and the injuries to a young mother have shaken the local community to its core. Friends describe Hunter as someone full of love and pride for his family
